CHAMPIONS & GREATS FROM THE PAST
BACKGROUND OF ELGIANTO & ZAMORA
"Elgianto" & "Zamora" Samoyed Kennels were both established in the 1960's. "Elgianto" is located in Melbourne, the Capital city of Victoria and Australia's southern most mainland state. "Zamora" is to be found in Ballarat, a provincial city 120kms north- west of Melbourne.
Phil Phillips, cousin of Julie Oates who is the current active owner of "Elgianto" registered the prefix in 1964. In the early years a bitch was bought from Jessie Coultas' Thaballa Kennels. She was
Ch. Thaballa Jezabelle, a daughter of Int. Ch. Darryl of Tamitsa (imp UK). Jezabelle became one of the top winning bitches of her time, one of her many achievements being "Best Opposite Sex in Group 6 at Melbourne Royal in 1967.
Glenda Hustwaite established "Zamora" in 1969 with the purchase of
Ch Kalina Imperial King. He was a son of Int. Ch Imperial Rebel of Kobe (imp UK). King enjoyed an illustrious show career winning the Gold Cup for BIS at the 1972 Championship of the Samoyed Club of Victoria. He was a multiple BIS winner at All Breeds Championship Shows and won the SCV award for Most Successful Samoyed for three years in a row. More importantly he was an influential sire and passed his rich "Kobe" heritage on to his progeny.
The union between Elgianto & Zamora began in 1971 when King was mated to Jezabelle. From this mating came three beautiful bitches, Ch Elgianto Tamanika, Ch Elgianto Tarina & Elgianto Nonchalance. Tamanika resided with Glenda and had amassed an impressive show history before her death from cancer at only three years of age. Her untimely death was a huge personal and breed loss as she died before having a litter.
With the loss of Tamanika Glenda leased a bitch in 1973 and mated it to King. Zamora Kimara was born and she became the first champion carrying the Zamora prefix. Current bitches at Zamora are the seventh generation of bitches from Kimara.

CH. KALINA IMPERIAL KING

CH. ELGIANTO TARINA

Julie regained the breeding line of King & Jezabelle in 1973 when she obtained a bitch puppy, Ch. Samovar Karousel, from Ch. Elgianto Tarina. So began a close working relationship that has seen both kennels prosper and consistently produce quality animals that have acquitted themselves well in show rings throughout Australia & New Zealand.

CH. ELGIANTO SKAYA

In 1977 Karousel was mated to Imperial King, her grandfather and from this mating came Ch Elgianto Maska and Elgianto Skaya. Maska went on to become a top winning sire of the 80's producing many Best in Show winners at both All Breeds and Specialty shows, including the prestigious SCV Gold Cup won by Ch. Zamora Laska Katushka in 1984. Maska and his son Ch. Varson Christmas Star proved to be a very successful stud team for "Elgianto". They won many "top sire" awards and the number won at our Royal Melbourne Show is a breed record unequalled to this day. Today Julie's males come for an unbroken line of males from Maska.
